Call 911! Take 2...
It started last Wednesday morning around 9am. I had an uncomfortable pain under my bottom left ribs. My back on the side of my spine ached, I was nauseous, my entire abdomen was feeling aches and pricking sensations and it all made me extremely uncomfortable. I didn’t know if I was going to lose my breakfast or faint or what. It passed quickly, but the back pain and pain under my ribs came back off and on throughout the day. It spread too. It went up into my chest and my upper back. By the time I was driving home, I could feel it in my neck and my upper arms as well as my entire chest/abdomen.
I didn’t think it could be a heart attack. That just wouldn’t make sense for me. But I was afraid maybe something was punctured or some fluids were where they weren’t supposed to be so I finally reluctantly called the nurse line. I wanted to know, is something possibly seriously wrong with an organ or can I just hang out and hope it passes in a day. So for the second time in my life the nurse line told me “you need to hang up and call 911 to arrange for a transport to the hospital immediately”. Seriously? I’ve only called the nurse line probably 4 times in my life. So they’re running at a 50% 911 answer. I see a Saturday Night Live skit here somewhere. I said “okay thanks” with no intention of calling 911. Apparently she thought I had a heart attack or stroke, and I wasn’t buying it. She said “is that something you’re willing to do then?” I told her I planned to just go inside and lay down for an hour and see how I felt. Then she went on about how every minute counts blah blah blah. I was feeling worse, so I did call T who was just across town picking up Cole. I left a message for him to come pick me up, and he did.
If you ever want to get past hospital check in fast, just say “chest pain”. You’ll be in your very own hospital bed and half naked within minutes… They did an EKG, blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, and I don’t know what else. And I am totally fine. There was nothing wrong at all. He said it could have been a physical manifestation of stress. I have been extremely stressed since trying to get the house ready but that particular day was, if anything, better stress-wise than many others. But who knows. Maybe it was from a build-up of stress over time. I didn’t experience any of that pain after that day. Hopefully now that the house is on the market, I won’t be seeing a repeat performance! Darn that nurse line…
